Weekly History Wrap Up: 11/04/11.

Go figure, seems a bit chillier than last week. But, at least it’s Friday. Time for the Weekly History Wrap Up.

A letter written during World War II by American Intelligence Operative, Richard Helms, from Germany back home to his 3-year-old son, Dennis, has landed as a display at the CIA Museum. Oh yeah, it was written on Adolf Hitler’s personal stationary.

Long overdue, Japanese-American World War II veterans were honored by Congress at a ceremony in D.C.

Still trying to sort out World War II in Europe. Former Croatian interior minister, Josip Boljkovac, has been arrested, accused in the killings of thousands of anti-communists shortly after the war.

A Vietnam War medic and an elementary student began exchanging letters in 1966. Forty-five years later, the penpals finally met in person.

Honor Flights have been one of those truly magical undertakings, transporting World War II veterans to D.C. to tour the Memorial and related sites. Is it time to include Korean War veterans?

Hey! Hey! And lastly, but certainly not least of all, we have a new national monument. Fort Monroe, in Hampton, Virginia, a refuge for slaves during the Civil War has been officially added to the list.

Til Monday, have a historical weekend.
