Letters From War Wednesday: World War II – Dale Weber.

Dale Weber - 816th Ordnance Company

Dale Weber served in World War II with the 816th Ordnance Company in Northern Europe.  He wrote this short note home in September 1943, while in England, preparing supplies for the Normandy Invasion.

“I thought I had better write and let you know that I am in England.

“I would like to know if any of our boys from Noble County (Indiana) are here in England.

“I am just fine.  Had a very nice trip over here.  I was seasick only one day.  It sure is an awful feeling.

“So far I like it very well over here, but would rather be back in the good old U.S.A. with my friends and family.  The way we have the Germans running now it won’t be long.”

Weber and his unit would follow the front through France, the Battle of the Bulge and into Germany.  V.E. Day saw Weber home to live a rich, full, post-war life.

   My father James C. Warren (2nd Armoured Division) tank driver was wounded D-Day at Omaha Beach and again at St. Lo. After rehab in Eng. he was assigned to the 816th Ordnance Supply Depot. I am interested in any history, insignias, etc. of that unit. Thank you.

     Welcome aboard. I’ve never been able to find too much out about the 816th, but am also on the lookout. Hopefully someone will enlighten us. Thanks for your comment.
