Letters From War Wednesday: World War II – Robert Jeffries.

In this edition of Letters From War Wednesday, we feature a short, September 1943, note home from Private Robert Jeffries, stationed with his unit in the Pacific.

“I miss being back in the States, especially in good old Albion, Indiana.

“I’ll try to send you my picture as soon as I can get off duty, but you know how things are over here. It probably won’t be as good as it should be as things are different here. I’ll do my very best.

“I see a large number of our boys have A.P.O. numbers. Well, that’s the only way we can win this war–getting right out and fight. I also see many of the boys got furloughs. I guess I was unlucky, being sent out right after basic training.

“I want to thank you again for ‘The Soldier’s Guide,’ as I have been reading it over and over, time after time. It really makes a fellow think he is setting in a chair back home reading it. It makes a fellow think he is at least closer home.”
