Bootprints Talk at Oak Farm Montessori School.

Oak Farm Montessori School in Avilla, Indiana is preparing for their annual History Fair next week.  Students are busy putting the final touches on history reports ranging from the Band of Brothers to Rosa Parks, from D-Day to Cleopatra.

In conjunction with the upcoming event, upper elementary Oak Farm students, grades 4-6, each received a copy of BOOTPRINTS: AN INFANTRYMAN’S WALK THROUGH WORLD WAR II.  I dropped off some 44 copies last Thursday.

I returned this week for a question and answer session and was just blown away by the interest.  There were questions about Hobert, questions about war – now and then, questions about correspondents, and the list goes on and on.  But it didn’t stop there.  Many were also interested in the writing process–drafts, editing, peer reviews, sources, publishing, etc.  I think I can safely say that there were more than a few aspiring young writers in the group.

I enjoyed my time thoroughly.  I would like to thank Oak Farm for the invitation.  These kids really get it.  Good luck with your History Fair.  Keep history alive!
