Fort Wayne Borders Survives.

Yes, it’s a sad event, though not unexpected.  Borders Group has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

What does this mean for a small publisher like Camp Comamajo Press?  We’ll have to wait and see.  Thankfully, our exposure is minimal when compared to other players–bigger publishing houses, and especially wholesalers.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.  When confronted with Border’s bad debt, will the big wholesalers like Baker & Taylor and Ingram, try to pass these losses back down the line to publishers?  Only time will tell.

On a good note, the History Junkie was very pleased to see that his Borders Store of choice in Fort Wayne, Indiana is not on the list of 200 that will close.  This store has always been very good to me.  Back when BOOTPRINTS first came out, the Fort Wayne staff agreed to take a chance on a first-time author and allowed a generous location for a point-of-purchase display.  I think I can safely say the arrangement was mutually beneficial as BOOTPRINTS quickly climbed their best-seller list.  Damn Marley and MeHobert Winebrenner and I also did a book signing at the store.  Ahh, great memories!
