Weekly History Wrap-Up: 05/20/11.

TGIF, though weekends sometimes feel busier than weekdays.  At least, it’s time for the Weekly History Wrap-Up.

Honor Flights to the World War II Memorial continue.  A group of WWII veterans from Carlton County, MN recently made the trek.

Naperville, IL is gearing up for this weekend’s 29th annual Civil War Days.  If your in the Chicago area, pay them a visit.

Agent Orange is back in the news.  The U.S. Army is investigating claims that hundreds of drums full of the Vietnam War-era defoliant were buried at Camp Carroll, South Korean in the 70s.

U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Angelica Pilato has shared her Vietnam War experiences in a new book, ANGEL’S TRUCK STOP.  Lt. Col. Pilato was stationed at Udorn AFB in Thailand during the war.

PTSD is believed to be a contributing factor in the suicide of a UK Korean War vet.  Sad to say, for many the war never really ends.

Maine’s Ramassoc Chapter of the DAR recently held a ceremony honoring two of their Revolutionary War vets.

Efforts are underway through the Liberty Fund D.C. to honor our African-American Revolutionary War participants.

And lastly, Fort Wayne Marine, Brandon Long, will be returning home in June.  Long lost both legs above the knees when he stepped on an IED while serving in Afghanistan.  Funds are being raised to help remodel his parent’s home to be more accessible. Your gifts of time, material or money will go a long way in welcoming this Marine home.
