Letters From War Wednesday: Vietnam War – Terry Weber.

For the newly drafted, plucked from hometowns across the country, life in the service was an adjustment, to say the least.  Terry Weber was drafted by the U.S. Army in December 1965, during the Vietnam War.  Following Basic Training, he reported to Fort Polk, Louisiana for AIT in March 1966.

Terry Weber - 14th Infantry, 25th ID

“I don’t like the Army, but still I’m trying to make the best of it,” Weber wrote home.  “…I found out last cycle that 90% of the company was sent overseas to Vietnam.  So I can about guess where I will be going.  In a way, I want to go over.  That’s the reason I was drafted into the Army.  So, if they send me, I will be ready to go.  …I wish they’d send enough men over to wipe them out.  But, I don’t think President Johnson’s got enough brains in his head.”

In Vietnam, Weber served with Company A, 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division.  Sadly, he was killed in a firefight on November 13, 1966.
