Letters From War Wednesday: World War II – Cliff Snyder.

Wednesday already? Yep, and time for Letters From War Wednesday. Today we feature a short note from Sgt. Cliff Snyder to his mother. Snyder served with the 152nd Infantry, 38th Infantry Division. He took a moment from the horrific fighting at the Battle of Zig Zag Pass in the Philippines to write home.

Sgt. Cliff Snyder - 38th Infantry Division

“I suppose you know we’ve been doing some fighting and have heard about some of the boys (casualties),” Snyder wrote home on February 9. “… Maybe it’ll not be so bad for awhile.

“… I’m sitting here in my foxhole writing. Don’t worry, I’ll try to be careful.”

Sadly, Sgt. Clifford Snyder would be killed in action on February 13, 1945, leaving behind his wife, Louise, at home. Snyder received a Bronze Star for his heroics at Zig Zag Pass, and was recommended for a battlefield commission only days prior to his death.
