90th Infantry Division Pic of the Week: Col. Eustis Poland.

Did you all get enough basketball this weekend?  Unfortunately, both my teams lost on Friday night.  Irish and Boilers gone.  Maybe they’re saving themselves for the big show.

But it’s a new week.  Monday, and time for the 90th Infantry Division Picture of the Week.

Col. Eustis Poland - 90th Infantry Division

Colonel Eustis L. Poland served as the Chief of Staff for the 90th Infantry Division in their pre-war days at Camp Barkeley, Texas.  In this 1943 photo, he’s holding awards won by the division.  Anybody remember Colonel Poland?

Equally interesting is a 1949 memo from Colonel Poland, when he served in Army Intelligence, regarding the “unconventional aircraft” issue in eastern New Mexico.  Let’s not forget that the happenings at nearby Roswell were in 1947, about the same time that the Green Fireball sightings came to light.  Colonel Poland went from T/O to UFOs.

  1. John D. Ferguson says:

Colonel Poland was coomander of the31st Infantry Regiment (7th Inf Div) in 1946/47 in Korea, where I served for ten months in his headquarters S-3. As a young NCO I considered him a strong and capable leader.
