In this edition of Letters From War Wednesday, we hear from Pfc. Bernard Skinner, stationed at Lincoln Airbase, Nebraska in May 1943.
“Having completed my basic training at St. Petersburg, I was sent here to Airplane Mechanics School. We learn to ‘keep ‘em flying’, and we’re sure going to do it. I go to school six hours a day and between callisthenics and shows, we have little time to ourselves.
“We have a very nice base here, almost a city in itself. We can go to the movies, soldiers’ club and many other recreational halls. Perhaps one reason it seems like a city is because there are some pretty lady drivers around.”
